Better Budget Priorities Town Hall
September 26, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The state budget is now almost THREE MONTHS LATE. What is going on?
- Educators are working in public schools without a raise.
- Classrooms are underfunded for basic supplies.
- The legislature is deadlocked on expanding Medicaid, which would cover 600,000 people, create 37,000 jobs, and bring healthcare costs down for everyone WITHOUT raising taxes.
And so what are our state lawmakers doing?
On 9/11, Republican in the NC House orchestrated a surprise budget veto override vote to ambush Democrats who were not attending. House Republicans overrode Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto 55-9, with 56 House members missing. Democrats say they were told there would be no votes that morning.
The budget veto override question now moves to the NC Senate. How will Senators vote? How do NC House members explain their role in an ambush vote?
